A Cry For Help
Good Morning Family,
This morning I am reminded of someone that I encountered some months ago and I want to share him with you.
While walking to work I saw a homeless man sitting on the ground surrounded by his belongings. I live in New York City so seeing homeless people is nothing new, however this particular gentleman grabbed my attention, not by what he was wearing or even his location, but rather the words that he spoke and the urgency by which he spoke them. He kept saying over and over again "Help Me". I cannot accurately explain the way he spoke those words but I will try knowing that my description will not really do it justice, you would have had to be there to fully understand. His "help me" was not a scream or a shout, it was more of a whisper. It was a sound of desperation, a sound of frustration, a sound of hopelessness, a sound of pain. The sound of his plea made me want to give him everything that I had. I wished I had even more to give him. And while many people rushing to work slowed down long enough to drop money into his cup, I knew that that wasn't the help that he truly was pleading for. His "help me" came from his soul and was meant more for God's ears than ours. The help that he was desperately needed could only come from God.
This gentleman made me think about the times in my life that I sincerely cried out to God. The times when I didn't care about looking cute, I didn't care about what others would think about me, I didn't care if I was laughed at...all I cared about was getting God's attention. My soul was hurting, my heart was hurting, I felt lost and defeated, my mind was racing with thoughts that I did not welcome and I needed God to help me. Have you ever felt that way?
The devil is throwing punches at us left and right and they are connecting. They are affecting us but instead of asking God for help, we walk around as if nothing is wrong. We smile when we should be crying. We surround ourselves with people when we should be alone seeking the face of God. We shop and spend money we do not have in order to keep up with people we really don't like and who do not really like us. We do all of these things to drown out the "help me" sound that is whispering ever so painfully from the depth of our souls.
I invite you to do what I did. Say those two words that will change your life forever..."Help Me". Ask God to help you. Say it...mean it...and I promise that He will help you! I encourage you this morning...know that there is nothing, I mean nothing, too hard for God. There is no situation, no circumstance that He cannot fix or deliver you from. There is no sickness that He cannot heal. God can do anything but fail! He is waiting on us...He is waiting for our CRY FOR HELP!
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
